The prescriptive educational program THE PRESCRIPTIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM’ GARY F. KOHLWES~ The Prescriptive Educational Program (PREP) in effect in Portland, Oregon since 1966, is a pilot program to study the utilization of the helping professions in a large city public school system. Need to re-examine the design of services of the helping professions in the schools has been noted by several writers (Bennett, Cherlin, Goldenberg, Levine, & Sarason, 1966 ; Brayfield, 1965; Lewis, 1967
