The purpose of this internal paper is assist internal Microsoft folks during a MOSS Search POC or a deployment of MOSS, with Search as a component. This means that if you are about to start a MOSS Search POC or a MOSS Deployment, you can use this paper to get an idea around Search planning and deployment. This paper will assist you during various phases such as envisioning, planning, scoping and/or deploying around MOSS Search. So MCS, Sales or PSS folks can read this paper to understand how to approach a MOSS Search project. The author used the information he had gathered over the life of MOSS to put this paper together. Some information in this paper is from internal PG discussions, delivering Search training, working with various MOSS Search customers, working with internal folks, discussing with other Search experts and learning on the job. Some information in this document has also been copied from existing useful internal and external blogs, FAQ articles, documents, SDK articles, and whitepapers, and other Search related material, training and documentation. The author has been asked this information many times by customers and internal folks and he felt that having this information in one place would be helpful, so that is why he copied some of today’s already existing content into this paper. This paper does not try or claim to cover all areas for MOSS Search. It also does not claim to cover some answers completely and tries to either answer the majority of the question or provide links to get the full answer. It tries to cover some of most frequently asked questions on MOSS.
