Mutual Information Complying MIMO Models
The MIMO channel models constructed via the principle of maximum entropy in [1]1, are compared to measurement data collected in a field campaign carried out in Oslo, Norway, at 2.1 GHz and 5.2 GHz. The measurements were performed at three different urban scenarios, a regular street grid, an open city place, and an indoor cell site with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. The fit between the models and the measured data is compared with respect to the cumulative distribution function of the mutual information assuming channel knowledge available only at the receiver side. The measurements confirm that mutual information is Gaussian distributed if the number of antenna elements is not too small. The fit between the measurements and the proposed double-directional model is in most cases very good even if propagation through Fourier directions is assumed as well as equal average power for the propagation paths. In some cases, good results can also be observed with single-directional (based only on directions of arrival or on directions of departure) models.
