预密钥
该协议使用称为“PreKeys”的概念。 PreKey 是由服务器存储在一起的 ECPublicKey 和相关联的唯一 ID。 PreKeys 也可以签名。
在安装时，客户端生成一个单独的签名 PreKey，以及一个大的未签名 PreKey 列表，并将它们全部传输到服务器。
会话
axolotl 协议是面向会话的。 客户端建立一个“会话”，然后用于所有后续的加密/解密操作。 一旦建立了会话，就没有必要拆除会话。
