Media Manager monitoring It’s important to clean your tape drives, but you want to make sure you don’t over clean or under clean the drives. you want to set up the tapes for cleaning according to the manufacturer’s recommendation for how many cleanings to do, and on what schedule. Drive cleaning is accomplished using cleaning tapes. >>>Media Manager tracks the usage of a cleaning tape by the number of times it has been used. For each cleaning tape, you can specify the number of cleanings that remain. You can change the number of cleanings at any time in Media Manager. Each time the tape is used, that number decreases by one. When the number of cleanings reaches zero, Media Manager stops using the cleaning tape. At this point, you can use a new cleaning tape or increase the number of cleanings allowed. In addition, you have some choices about cleaning the drives. You can have the hardware do it, you can have the software do the cleaning, or you can manually do it. In fact, many of the more advanced tape libraries have hardware based cleaning, where the hardware takes care of basically everything for you.
